Telecom Minister Kapil Sibaal confirmed yesterday that upgraded version of Akash, Akash 2 will come with SIM card facility to make it fully functional tablet.
He also said to media person : “Government’s plan is to connect 2.5 lakh panchayats through the National fibre optics connectivity, the last mile of which would be through wireless broadband.”
He was addressing the people at the inaugural function of the Science Congress and laying the foundation stone for the Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT)’s Science and Technology Park and Research centre at nearby Mookkannoor.
“In actual conditions you are having a virtual highway which is endless through which information can circulate at the speed of sound. It allows farm owners to be informed when to fish, which part of the lake there is chlorophyll, when to sow seed products, when monsoon will come and when to offer generate to get best industry price‘, he said.
Sibbal also said that during 5-6 year of time our plan is to see Akash in every child’s hand at a very low cost of Rs 1500.
He also added that the cost of Akash tablet to go as low as Rs 1500 in near future when Manufacturing activities are fully established in country.
Akash 2 said to be have more stronger than its predecessor Akash which was running on android OS 2.2 (Froyo) with 366 Mhz processor and 7 inch resistive touch screen which was not enough mature to give a smooth experience to user, but Akash 2 will have some advance features over Akash like 800 Mhz dual-core Cortex – A9 processer,2 GB of internal storage and 256 MB of RAM, which is cap-able enough to handle the ICS, and the most important thing is , it will have SIM card option to offer a mobile friendly experience to end user.
